What is Invisalign and how does it work?

Invisalign uses a series of invisible and removable aligners to straighten your teeth instead of traditional metal braces. Unless you tell someone, no one can tell you are in Invisalign treatment. Invisalign is made with highly effective and precise 3-D computer imaging technology and even allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan so you can see how your teeth will look when your treatment is complete!

Why would I want Invisalign instead of braces?

Since Invisalign aligners are removable, you can eat, brush and floss without any extra hassle. Invisalign aligners are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. With no metal and wires used in the making of Invisalign, thisusually means you spend less time in Dr. Wentz's office getting adjustments.

How often will I need to come by for Invisalign appointments?

When you visit our Fairbanks orthodontic office for your first consultation, you’ll spend about an hour with our orthodontist, Dr. Todd Wentz. At your initial consultation, you and Dr. Wentz will discuss the goals you have for your smile and how he can help you if you are a good candidate for Invisalign. He will also let you know approximately how long your Invisalign treatment should last and how many Invisalign aligners you should expect to wear. Regular Invisalign appointments and adjustments typically last from 20 minutes to 45 minutes, depending on patient needs. You’ll visit Dr. Wentz about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.

You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, and take them out only during mealtimes and when you brush and floss your teeth. We recommend wearing your aligners for 22 hours every day. As you progress to each new aligner in the series, your teeth will move gradually until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Wentz prescribes. It’s easy to see how much progress you’ve made – just compare your old aligners as you move along in your treatment! On average, treatment time lasts anywhere from 9 to 15 months and Invisalign patients will wear between 18 and 30 aligners, but both will vary from case to case. When you first come in, Dr. Wentz will let you know exactly how long your Invisalign treatment should last to get your most ideal smile.
